Abide By Agreement Means

Abide may seem a little old-fashioned these days. The word already exists before the 12th century, but it is a little rare today, except in some special applications. Even more archaic for our modern ear is “abidden”, the original party past “stay”. Today, both the past and the role of the past of “remain” are served either by “abode” or by “abided”, the “abided” being the most frequent choice. “Stay” often dips into the phrase “can (or could not) stay.” The term “abide by,” which means “to go after” or “to be heard,” is also common. Related terms include the participatory adjective “abiding” (meaning “sustainable” or “continuation,” as in “persistent interest in nature”), nov “abidance” (“continued” or “compliance”) and noun “Aresidence” (“residence”). The questions you ask have nothing to do with the meaning of the word “stay.” As @phenry has already said, the clause you have quoted simply requires that you comply with the terms of use (ToS) of the company concerned. 1abide byno object accept or act in accordance with (a rule, a decision or a recommendation) 2can/could not abideinformal with object Be unable to (someone or something) The comments of users of this dictionary suggest that many people interested in the meaning of the word are motivated by one of two quite different things: the Bible, in which Jesus, for example, asks his followers to “stay in me”; and the film The Big Lebowski, in which Jeffrey Lebowski (aka “The Dude”) proclaims: “The Dude remains.” Both the film and the book have done much to keep the word in general usage. Although the sources are completely different, each of these specific examples is used as defined by the first intransitative meaning: “stay stable or fixed in a state.” In saying, “Stay in me,” Jesus asks his disciples to remain constant in their relationship with Him. The exact meaning of “The Guy Remains” is the subject of some debate, but there is obviously an idea that Lebowski`s consistency himself – metaphysically perhaps – is affirmed. Stay with only “to fill.” With the agreement, you agree to respect the terms of the contract.
